Day 33: Where’d I Park My Bike?
This was a common scene of the city as I walked around yesterday… finding everyday things swallowed up by the snow. They act as little reminders of the life that lies beneath it.

Day 32: Aftermath
As you may know, Chicago had one of the biggest snow storms in its history that started yesterday and ended late in the afternoon today. I am a big fan of weather and headed out in the afternoon today to catch someof the aftermath of this amazing storm. Here are a few pictures from today.

Over the next few days I’ll be posting some of the photos taken from after the blizzard.

Day 30: Supersonic
This is a picture of an F-18 in transonic flight. This happens when there is just the right amount of water vapor in the air such that the shock waves cause the water to precipitate. The condition lasts only for an instant and when the supersonic flow exists completely around the aircraft, sharp-angled sonic cones replace the normal shock waves.
Day 29: Scales
This is the pedestrian bridge over Columbus Drive that connects Daley Plaza with Millennium Park. Created by Frank Gehry in 2004 this bridge has won awards for its use with sheet metal. Named the BP Pedestrian Bridge due to the $5M dollar donation that BP provided to the construction of the bridge. The bridge is described as snakelike due the curving form and scale-like look. With the hardwood floor boards this bridge is a total of 935 feet long and is closed in the winter since snow and ice cannot be safely removed from those boards.

Day 28: Frozen in Time
Heading to the fireworks during the Taste of Chicago, the dog stood at attention watching every move of the oncoming mounted police and their horses. I think the picture shows a great impression of the rush of the city as the people behind him are in a blur.

Day 26: Snow Covered “Bean”
This is Cloud Gate in Millenium Park…mostly known as the “bean”. Created by British artist Anish Kapoor. The artist wanted to create something that would reflect the Chicago skyline and clouds above. The sculpture is one of the largest of its kind and measures 66-feet long by 33-feet high with a 12-foot high arch. Located in AT&T Plaza in Millenium Park, the arch allows visitors to step inside, touch its mirror-like surface and see their reflection. Whether you see it during the day or night, summer or fall, this is really an amazing site.
