Day 314: Firefighter Memorial

Although today is Veterans Day, I did not have a good HDR photo that was appropriate to post.  So here is a photo done in HDR of the firefighter memorial at the Chicago Firehouse Engine 13 on Columbus in the loop.  The memorial statue was built to recognize and honor the proud work and sacrifice of fallen firefighter Walter Watroba. The memorial is dedicated to the memory of Watroba and all Chicago firefighters who have lost their lives in service to the City of Chicago.

Remember to take time today, and everyday you can, to honor those around you who fight and serve and sometimes make the ultimate sacrifice so you can live in a safe and free country.  Thanks to all the veterans and active military that have serve our country. HAPPY VETERANS DAY!

Day 313: Cicero Firefighters

You might remember this photo of the Cicero firefighter at the Scott Firefighter challenge.  This is one of my favorite photos done in HDR. One of the great things about HDR is the way that it really brings out and accentuates textures- like the wrinkles in his jacket, the dirt on the firehouse and makes him look like he has been through hell and back.

Day 312: Foggy Skyline

In lieu of today being a dreary, cloudy and rainy day, here is an HDR photo from the Lakeshore path of the fog rolling in over the skyline. HDR really shows the detail in the clouds and waves in the lake.

Day 311: Antique Fire Truck

A 1925 Seagrave Suburbanite Antique Fire Truck.  This truck contains a Seagrave Centrifugal pump that pumps 350 gallons of water per minute.  Features a sterling model “H” hand crank siren and bell.

This HDR photo was taken at the Muster at the Chicago Fire Academy in the summer of 2011.

Day 310: Colorful Fountain

This photo of Buckingham Fountain that was done in HDR shows colors so much richer, much more texture and depth to the photo. Even the buildings look more magnificent when done in HDR. Check out the difference to a standard digital version of the same photo showcased on Day 242 .

Day 309: South Pond

Here is a great one done in HDR.  It’s the South Pond at Lincoln Park Zoo with the skyline in the back.

Day 308: Clouds

This is an HDR photo of a cloud clearing in the sky.  I love the way that HDR gives everything so much more depth in the photo.

Day 307: Perry Farm

Now I know that this isn’t exactly in Chicago, but it’s close enough to where you can drive.  This is a restored horse barn located at Perry Farm in Bourbonnais IL (also known as “Bear”bonnais as the Chicago Bears hold training camp at Olivet Nazarene University).

This was one of the first photos that I did in HDR and it’s really not the greatest quality as I wasn’t using a tripod and with HDR any slight movement while taking the three required photos causes the photo to have some imperfections.  However, I still like this one as it shows how much deeper the colors can get when using HDR.

Day 305: Blue Chicago

Located at 536 N. Clark St,  Blue Chicago offers an authentic blues club experience. This River North establishment features local Chicago blues bands along with the best female blues voices in the city.
