Day 344: Blackhawks Win

The Blackhawks took on the San Jose Sharks at the Mad House on Madison tonight.  Going into the last minute of the game, Hawks were down 1-2 when Marian Hossa ties it up sending the game into overtime.  As the push continues by both teams in overtime, it appears the game might be going to a shoot out when Patrick Sharp scores the winning goal with only 33 seconds remaining in overtime.  Blackhawks WIN!!

Day 343: TBOX

Boxes of cereal stacked up and ready for TBOX.

TBOX (SM) stands for… (T)welve (B)ars (O)f (X)mas, an annual event held the Second Saturday in December in the Wrigleyville Neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. It started out as just another Pub Crawl, and over the years has evolved into one of the largest and most spectacular events of its kind in the world. The event was founded in 1996 by Chicagoan Christopher Festa as a “just for fun” event for a few of his friends from work, and has grown from about 60 people the first year to over 10,000 registered participants in 2010.  TBOX2011 is being held on Saturday, December 10, 2011 starting at 8AM/9AM, at the Cubby Bear Wrigleyville, and will travel through 36 Bars, going until Closing Time.

Originally a sequential tour of 12 bars (based of course on the “12 Days of Christmas” carol), TBOX is now an all-day event, beginning at 8AM and going through closing time (19 hours), and encompassing over 36 bars in the Wrigley area in the 3400-3800 Corridor of Clark and Sheffield, between Roscoe and Grace. Since 2007, the event has started and ended with Opening and Closing Ceremonies and a finale party at the world-famous Cubby Bear at 1059 W. Addison.

The event is now owned and produced by Festa Parties Incorporated, and tickets go on sales beginning in late August/early September on the Festa Parties Web Site. Participants then come in to the Festa Office in Chicago to pick up their Participant Kits including Gym Bag, T-Shirt, Badge, Lanyard, Schedule Card, Coupons, Stickers, and other included items.

Day 342: Crowd

The crowd gathers to watch Mad Bread perform at one of the many stages at Navy Pier during the summer.

Mad Bread is a string band for the 21st century, playing a unique mixture of bluegrass, rock, folk and blues. The band blends traditional instruments with modern songwriting, creating innovative, genre-bending music that defies classification. At a concert, you’ll hear them move effortlessly from boot-stompin’ bluegrass jams, to psychedelic folk ballads, to Chicago-style blues-rock with stops everywhere in between.

The Chicago-based band was formed 2006, starting out as 3 roommates just pickin’ in the living room. The band began gigging in early 2007 and has brought their unique sound to dozens of venues across the city of Chicago and the Midwest. When performing, the band’s philosophy is simple: the audience should enjoy listening as much as the band enjoys playing. It’s all about having a good time.

Day 338: Bye Bye Fall

Fall is officially over.  In it’s remembrance, here is a great shot that captures a picture of fall down at Starved Rock- although not necessarily in Chicago, this is one of the greatest places near Chicago to go and experience fall.

Day 335: Macy’s Holiday

As many Chicagoians know, it’s not the holidays until you make a visit to Macy’s to bask in the holiday atmosphere and decorations.  From the moment you arrive at the Macy’s building downtown, you are greeted with trumpets as you enter in the building.
