Day 54: Lonely Bench

What can I really say about this picture… I just love how great simple things we take for granted, like a park bench, can be if it’s caught at the right angle in the right light.  Photography helps to bring out the inner beauty of these such simple things… and helps you live up to the whole “stop and smell the roses” phrase that most of us long forget as we age.  This was a moment to just stop and capture the beauty of something we take for granted.

Day 53: Remembering the heroes

This is an image of Chris Wheatley’s name and the other names of the fallen firefighters of Chicago etched on the memorial located in the Union Stockyard .  The memorial was erected in 2004 to remember all of the firefighters in Chicago who have died in the line of duty.

Day 52: Railroad Crossing

This is the railroad crossing right outside of the Union Stockyard in Chicago along the  Milwaukee District West (MD-W) Metra train line.  As a good number of railroad crossing signs have been converted from wooden posts to metal posts, I wanted to capture the beauty of the older and more aged wooden post.

Day 51: Sunset

This picture was taken from a building in Uptown as the sun was setting behind the Bridgeview Bank building.  Such a beautiful sunset to capture.

Day 50: Clouds Rollin’ In

These pictures were taken nearly in the morning from Lake Shore Drive during Bike the Drive.  The clouds were rolling by that day and I could get a great view of the Trump Tower and Wrigley Building.  It’s always nice to take the opportunity to get a shot like this as it’s the only one throughout the year where you can get a shot from on Lake Shore Drive.

Day 47: Blackhawks Win!

To celebrate the 1st home win last night in a month for the Blackhawks, I thought I would post a picture of the city skyline as we cheered on the Blackhawks in their race to the Stanley Cup last June.

Day 46: Canal Street Bridge

The Canal Street Bridge is a railroad bridge that was built in 1914.  It is a vertical lift bridge that goes across the south branch of the Chicago River, and is the only vertical lift bridge that crosses the Chicago River.  In December 2007 it was designated a Chicago Landmark.

This picture was taken from Ping Tom Memorial Park in Chinatown.

Day 45: eerie night

This was taken outside the Adler Planetarium.  I find that you can get some really awesome shots from the planetarium since it sits on the outskirts of the city right along the lakefront.  Looking at this picture now, makes me remember what an eerie night it was… with the clouds covering the moon just enough but still allowing the moonlight to shine through.
