A crowd visits the bean.
Day 143: Downy Woodpecker
Downy woodpeckers have black wings with white spotting and a white stripe down their back with a white underside. Males are larger than females and have a red patch on their nape which is missing in females. Both sexes have a conspicuous tuft of feathers (nasal bristles) above the bill.
This is a photo of a male Downy woodpecker taken in the park.

Day 142: Shrubs in the Park

Another great shot from a foggy night in the city. The shrubs in the park, brightly flowering in the spring contrast against the dreary foggy night.

The fog over the last few nights in Chicago have lead to some really awesome photos. Here are a couple shots of a group of guys playing Rugby at Montrose harbor.

Day 140: Cubs Win
It has been 93 years since the Cubs have played the Red Sox up at Fenway (last time being the 1918 World Series in which the Red Sox won the six game series), but this weekend the Cubs headed out to Boston to face the Red Sox in Fenway. The Red Sox wore throwback uniforms that were an off-white color with no team name on the front. The Cubs wore grey uniforms with blue pinstripes and the word “Cubs” on the left breast.
In honor of their 9-1 win over the Red Sox (getting 8 runs in the 8th), I wanted to post a photo of the W flag. Go Cubs!
Day 139: On The Fence
With the past 4 days quite foggy out in the city, I grabbed my camera and headed out to snap some shots. I took this photo of a broken fence near Montrose Harbor.

Day 138: Let’s Go Fly a Kite
People gather on a hill in the park near Montrose Beach to fly their kites during the annual “Mayor Daley’s Kids and Kites Festival”. The festival allowed kids to assemble their own kites and fly them on a grassy expanse at Montrose Harbor. Mayor Daley’s Kids & Kites Festival features six free hours of kite-flying fun, as well as face painting, crafts and balloon artists. Just another fun thing that happens as the weather warms up for the summer.
Day 137: Pui Tak Center
The Pui Tak Center (Pui tak means to cultivate and enhance virtues), is located in Chinatown’s only historical landmark. It was designated a landmark by the commission on Chicago Landmarks on December 1, 1993. Constructed from 1926 to 1928, the building was originally built for the On Leong Merchants Association. At the time of construction, there were no architects of Chinese origin or descent licensed to practice in Illinois, nor were there any standing examples of traditional Chinese architecture in the state. The architecture showcases traditional Chinese design. Imposing green and red pagoda towers topped with walls of terra cotta flowers and mother lions truly represent the majestic traditions of China. Inside, the reception hall represented the one and only indigenous Chinese shrine in the Midwest.
